Leadership brings responsibility. Responsible leaders have every intention of getting things done, but sometimes fall into the pit of boring. Being focused on the intangibles and forgetting about the people they are supposed to be leading.

In another life, I worked with an organization with a high level leader who was so focused on doing things one way and listening to one person.  When you operate in a bubble, it’s easy to lose your ability to lead and only grow the skills of management.

I’m sure we’ve all been there.  The CEO who drives because he’s in charge. The manager who micromanages the team. That team member who does their own thing and doesn’t care about the impact it makes.

These are examples of selfish leadership.  A selfish leader is concerned more about himself and his own goals and aspirations.  The sad thing is that the selfish leader thinks you can’t see his selfish tendencies. He thinks he’s a really great leader.  Usually because he thinks getting results and looking good is the be-all-end-all of being a good leader.

Good leaders don’t focus on the bull’s eye. Good leaders are selfless.

A Fascinating Leader compels his team to success. Don’t confuse compel with compulsory.

A Fascinating Leader is in tune with the big picture goals, the end result and the team involved. He’s a great communicator.  He doesn’t apply a one-size-fits-all approach. He learns how to adapt his communication to each person.

A Fascinating Leader lives this kind of integrity – do the right thing even when nobody is watching.

A Fascinating Leader learns from missteps. Moreover, he communicates missteps and works with the team to create solutions.

A Fascinating Leader is open to change. He uses the Mystique Advantage to listen.  And when presented with ideas, his first thought shouldn’t be, “Why?” – it should be, “Why not?”

A Fascinating Leader cares about the leadership development of his people. The more developed his people, the more optimized his team, the more success is achieved. Genuine empathy doesn’t have to be ooey-gooey-warm-and-fuzzy. But genuine empathy means more people will choose the Fascinating Leader to lead them.
